The Family Times Mommy + Me Cover Contest:
• Print and digital advertisements promoting the contest
• Cover design for Facebook event page
• Three-page spread that introduced the finalists and sponsors
The target audience was specifically the new mom reader population of both Family Times and the Syracuse New Times. The design included a warm colored, floral wreath that encompassed the logo to appeal to the current generation of new moms.
After reading the entries that were submitted, it was clear that many of these women had similar experiences, including myself. A common theme was infertility and pregnancy loss. As a new mom of a “rainbow baby”, I completely could relate to what some had experienced. For those that don’t know, a “rainbow baby” is a baby that is born following a miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal death or infant loss. Miscarriage is such a common occurrence, but yet it’s not openly talked about for the most part. These women shared their stories with the local community and I commend them for that. Fortunately for myself and these ladies, we ultimately experienced the extreme joy of welcoming a baby into the world. If there is one thing we can learn from any woman who has suffered a pregnancy loss, is that there is light at the end of the dark tunnel. I can say that time will heal the piece of your heart that broke along the way. My little man, Oliver, was born on July 3, 2016 and my heart is definitely whole again.
Read their stories in the online edition of the July 2017 issue of Family Times here. Congratulations to Samantha Fitzgerald for winning the cover contest!
